Hypnosis Induction Checklist

Here’s a short checklist that can serve as an outline for most inductions.

  • Hypnotic modality
  • Authority
  • Do they think it will work
  • Compliance chain – some short chances to follow direction
  • Physical comfort and safety
    • Are they comfortable
    • Hazards
    • Not too comfortable
    • Comfortable place to continue
  • Do they imagine or visualize?
  • Should I use direct or indirect suggestions?
  • Patter – describe the effects of going into state
    • Cadence/Tone
    • Repetition
  • Physiological tricks
  • Overload
    • Focal Device – sometimes called “the induction” – eye fascination, etc.
    • Focal device – focus their attention
    • Redirect – move their attention
    • Physiological cues – call their attention to elements that suggest they are going into state
  • Conversion
    • Verbal component
    • Physical Component
  • Immediate Deepening
